Managing Editor for Nordic Journal of Botany

(part-time position)

 

Nordic Journal of Botany (NJB) is an international renowned journal publishing studies in plant ecology, biodiversity and plant systematics. Together with the journals Oikos, Ecography, J. Avian Biology and Wildlife Biology, NJB is owned by the Nordic Society Oikos and published by Wiley.

NJB is currently in a very dynamic phase, with a well-developed author community and increasing submissions. We are now looking for a Managing Editor that can build on this success and strengthen the journal further, especially in the area of plant ecology.

As Managing Editor, you will not only oversee the day-to-day work at the journal, but you will also be in charge of the journal’s strategic development. Together with the team at the Oikos Editorial Office and our editors, you will ensure that NJB maintains a strong position in its field.

The publishing world is currently going through rapid changes and open science, transparency and an efficient and fair peer review process are all central elements for the future success of Nordic Journal of Botany. As the Managing Editor, you will lead the journal in the exciting coming changes of publishing science communication.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious plant ecologist with a strong interest in publishing and we believe that the ideal candidate would have the following qualifications and experience:

  • The capacity to work in a team with a diverse group of colleagues
  • broad and deep knowledge in the area of plant ecology and biodiversity of plants
  • PhD in a subject area relevant to the profile of NJB
  • fluent in English
  • experience and a strong interest in scientific publishing
  • skills and devotion to launch and coordinate new initiatives, analyse trends and changes, as well as oversee projects
  • skills and experience in science communication, including social media and outreach.

 

This part-time position includes:

  • Strategic development of the journal
  • monitoring submissions and ensuring an efficient and fair review process
  • dealing with enquiries from authors, reviewers and editors
  • keeping up to date with developments within the journals scope
  • providing and coordinating information to editors, publisher, service providers and other stakeholders.
  • marketing and promoting the journal at international meetings and congresses
  • profiling NJB in social media channels
  • analysing trends in academic publishing.

The Oikos Editorial Office is based at Lund University, Sweden. The work as Managing Editor for NJB can be fulfilled from a remote office.
